Strands Resplendent

IMG_5007

To my children: Kyle, Sam, Sarah, Anna, and Megan

Tonight,
on this Thanksgiving Eve,

I am thankful
for each of you,

my children.

Thankful to be gathered
one more time

under this roof,
sharing

the good, the funny,
the deep and profound,

the challenging,
the hard.

Because it is sometimes…
hard.

I felt that this week
in the off-hand comment

never meant for my ears
that riled my spirit,

in the totaled van,
and another potential diagnosis,

and I knew I needed
perspective.

Then evening fell
in streaming ribbons

Of purple and red
and gold

gathering you
home

to this space
of undulating grace

and abrasive
frustration,

of laughter mingled
with prayer

and love
poured out

imperfect,
inadequate,

inefficient,
inept

and yet
enough

to link our lives
into strands

resplendent
in the Father’s eyes.

Perspective.
Because there is

nowhere
I’d rather be

than here
linking life and love

and hands and hearts
with you.
